ANOTHER WIN
Alty Reserves match at Colwyn Bay yesterday was recorded as a 2-1 win to Alty. After the Bay had conceded the points as they were unable to field a full team, a game was played in which several Alty players turned out for the Welsh side and one of them, Steve Lunt, even scored against his own team in an unofficial 2-2 draw! The revised league table is here. Other results this week were as below; Guiseley played in 3 games in which 32 goals were scored!24 April, 2002

RESERVES 1 OSSETT TOWN RES 5
With the heart of the team missing as they were on duty for the Youth team instead, Altrincham fielded a much changed Reserves' line-up. Not surprisingly they struggled against a side more used to playing together. There was a marked improvement in Alty's performance in the last 20 minutes after they had brought on Danny Murphy and Paul Kerfoot. The latter scored a fine consolation goal after 83 minutes. Match report here For the opposition's view, visit their excellent website.7 April, 2002

WASTED EFFORT- AGAIN!
Following Wednesday's curious abandoned game, Altrincham travelled over the Pennines to Nethermoor for today's away game versus Guiseley. However, the match had to be postponed due to pot holes on the pitch! As Guiseley do not have a groundsman an attempt was made to get the game started by visiting a nearby B&Q to buy bags of sand to fill the holes. This proved unsuccessful and Alty returned home without a game.6 March, 2002
WINDS CAUSE ABANDONMENT
Alty Reserves's match tonight at Flixton against Rossendale United Res. was abandoned after 32 minutes due to high winds. The score was goalless at the time but the ref's decision seemed to have been influenced by the last meaningful action, which was a long shot from Alty's Lee Thompson, which was well saved by the Rossendale keeper despite taking a major deviation because of the gusty wind. Earlier in the game there had been five minutes of sweeping rain but the referee's decision to call the game off took everyone by surprise. Altrincham were beginning to get the upper hand with Thompson getting a shot past the keeper, which was cleared by a covering defender (15 mins) and Jason Anthony forcing a good save from the Rossendale number one (23 mins). For their part, the visitors' no.11 prompted a fine stop from Dale Newbrook at his near post. Alty's team included six current Youth players: 1. Dale Newbrook, 2. Barry Guildford, 3. Paul Robinson, 4. Vernum Rowland, 5. Steve McGrath, 6. Lee McDonald, 7. Keith Mairs (capt.), 8. Paul Tilley, 9. Jason Anthony, 10. Lee Thompson, 11. Sam Baker. The subs included Richard Smith, Lee Shillito, Ian Horton and Mario Daniel.3 March, 2002

MADEW, THE HERO
When Altrincham Reserves arrived at Leigh on Saturday, they found they had no goalkeeper. Midfielder Stuart Madew volunteered to keep goal and put in a fine performance in a 2-2 draw. For Danny Claffey's match report, click here. A Leigh fan said afterwards, "until I read the report I had no idea that the keeper was in fact an outfield player. It certainly didn't show in the game! It was difficult for a normal keeper in the gale-force conditions which blew straight down the pitch so he did remarkably well". Other results this week:6 February, 2002

MORE ON FIRST GAMES
Against Morecambe (see below), Alty Reserves led till half-time against a Shrimps side containing several first-teamers. Only in the last 20 minutes did Morecambe's strength tell, with two goals being conceded by Altrincham in the last ten minutes. In last Friday's game at Burscough, Alty again took the lead quite early in the game through Hargreaves but conceded an equaliser just before half time. Altrincham dominated the second half but gave away a sloppy goal half way through the half and could not score an equaliser. My thanks to Paul Johnson for this information. The next Reserves game is at home to Leigh RMI this Wednesday; will Mark Ward be in the RMI side? The game is at Flixton FC, Valley Road, Flixton, 7.30pm.25 August 2001
